There is a price to pay for the Bulldog’s pretty face, and that price is tear stains, which can be the devil to exorcise once they establish a face hold in a Bulldog. To prevent this from happening, wash your Bulldog’s face with lukewarm water and a washcloth each day – or every other day at least.
If your Bulldog develops tear stains, mix equal parts hydrogen peroxide and white milk of magnesia with enough cornstarch to make a paste. Apply this mixture to the stained areas twice a day, then brush it out with a toothbrush after it has dried into a cake. After the stains begin to fade (you should start to see results in five to seven days), apply the mixture once a day until your Bulldog’s face is showroom new again. Be careful not to get any of this mixture in your dog’s eyes.
If hydrogen peroxide, white milk of magnesia, and cornstarch are not your cup of tea, you can use boric acid, boric acid ointment, or a commercial tear-stain remover to remove your Bulldog’s tear stains. After you have dried his face, smooth a thin layer of diaper rash ointment over the stained area and dust it with medical powder. This treatment will cause tears to roll off your Bulldog’s face instead of staining it.
